#WarmLights Supports Prahran Mission

As part of the City of Stonnington’s GLOW Winter Festival, High Street Armadale’s #WarmLights appeal is using social media to raise money for Prahran Mission.

Throughout the festival, all Facebook ‘Likes’ and ‘Shares’ given to the photos of the High Street Armadale traders participating in #WarmLights will be turned into dollars for the Prahran Mission by the traders.

High Street Armadale Traders Association president, Eugene Notermans, says #WarmLights is a novel way to focus on the issue of homelessness, and encourage people to follow the traders’ lead and donate to the mission:

“Winter should be a magical time full of hospitality and home comforts, but some people have no way to escape the cold.

“So when we heard that Prahran Mission’s emergency relief service needed more funding, our High Street Armadale community got together to see how we could help.

“#WarmLights showcases what we do so well on High Street Armadale – bringing people together to share the spirit of our community.”

According to Erica Myers-Davis of Prahran Mission, its emergency relief service is only funded for another four months and is in great demand as cold weather pushes up families’ utility bills and food costs:

“Winter is a particularly tough time for families on low incomes and individuals experiencing homelessness or social isolation.

“A hot meal is vital to ensure people stay warm but this is impossible for people sleeping rough or those in rooming houses who don’t have access to cooking facilities.

“This is why we offer hot breakfasts every morning – often to as many as 100 people in need.”

Use your Facebook ‘like’ to participate and #WarmLights to ‘share’ on social media. For more information on High Street Armadale’s #WarmLights appeal visit High Street Armadale’s Facebook page or highstreetarmadale.com.au/warmlights between August 21 and 31.
