How To: Lazy Day Hairstyles

Most days I’m usually running late; haphazardly applying makeup, throwing on a decent-looking outfit and popping my hair into a high ponytail on the bus ride to uni or work.

But for those days where I have a little extra time (but still too lazy for big, blown out Heidi Klum hair), I’m in love with these quick and easy hairstyles that takes only a few minutes to achieve but looks like I’ve been in front of the bathroom mirror for ages.

Messy bun

Bless the person that brought the messy bun in vogue! The best thing about this look is there’s really no right or wrong way to achieve this effortless style. Start off with teased, voluminous hair and gather the strands on the crown of your head as best you can. Secure with an elastic and as few bobby pins as you can. Remember, the beauty is in the messiness! Try pulling the front strands in order to frame your face and finish off the look like Whitney Port.

3-minute straightener beachy waves

This final lazy day look should take no more than 3 minutes (give or take, depending on your hair thickness and length). Your locks will be divided into 3 sections; left, right and back, and a minute will be dedicated to each part. Starting with the first section, grab a large chunk and start running the straightening iron normally from the roots downwards. Once you reach the mid-end portion of the strand, twist the straightener 180 degrees and continue to ‘straighten’ the hair. You should be left with bouncy waves, which you’ll repeat for the entire head. Gently spritz with sea salt spray and scrunch for messy bed-head locks a la Alexa Chung.

Braided high ponytail

Put a twist on a classic messy high ponytail with an intricate side braid for added texture. Start by separating a thick strand of hair around the frame of your face with a clip or elastic. Flip your head upside down and throw the rest of your locks into a messy high ponytail by gathering the strands altogether. Then braid the front section whichever way you please; regular, French or Dutch if you’re feeling fancy like Jennifer Morrison. Finish by wrapping the braid around the ponytail elastic to hide it from view, securing with bobby pins at the base.

Chignon headband tuck

This hairstyle is the definition of an easy, effortless hairstyle that provides a polished look with maximum impact. Simply put on a cute elastic headband as normal and start tucking in the ends until it forms a beautiful tucked chignon effect. It may be tricky to nail at first, but with practise I guarantee this will be your new go-to hairstyle in the morning.
