Industrial style is all about transparency. Exposed bricks. Exposed Beams. Steel lights. The look has been inspired from warehouses and factories where everything was in the open. Industrial style is a great way to recycle and reuse materials that we already have in our homes. The industrial feel is achieved through the use of metal and wood. Similar to Scandinavian décor, industrial style overlaps its key elements.

Colour
The colour palette plays it safe and incorporates neutrals, steering away from bright and bold colours, although, if used right, they can be used to change up the mood. Primarily, it is all about browns, greys and whites. The best way to achieve this is to use different shades of the same colour to avoid the room from feeling one-dimensional. It is about achieving a crisp, clean look.

Décor
Since industrial style is primarily made up of materials such as wood and metal, that has a certain heaviness associated to it, it is important for the décor to add a sense of softness to create a balance. It is good to use huge comfy sofas and oversized cushions to compliment the ‘industrial’ feel. The great thing about this style is that it easy and relatively cheap to achieve as many of the materials can be found around the house, the curbside, garage sales, from recycling centres and charity/ op shops. This is the great thing about industrial style, as it blurs the line between trash and store bought goods which results in the true beauty of the object to come through.
Lighting
Without a doubt, pendant lights are the way to go. It embraces the industrial theme perfectly through the use of materials such as metal (which are a huge yes) and also because the light bulb can be seen, which adds to the element of transparency. Not only this, pendant lights come in various geometric designs, colours and sizes which mean that each room in the house can be personalised according to your own personal taste.
As far as natural lighting goes, overly sized windows are a great plus as they are spot on for achieving this style.
Walls
The most iconic feature of the industrial style is an exposed wall. They add a sense of drama as well as a sense of naturalness, which creates a warm and inviting feel to the room. It can be used as a feature wall to spice up the room or used all throughout the home. Exposed brick walls also mean that there is no need for maintenance as stains add to the overall design.
