However, ASAPScience has published new findings that puts to rest the confusion many of us feel as to why caffeine isn’t affecting us the way we expect it to.

coffee, asapscience, energy, cortisolAccording to ASAPScience, the best time to have caffeine in the morning is just after 9am.

Why?

The evidence lies in a body chemical called Cortisol, which is controlled by our internal body clock; the ‘circadian rhythm’.

Cortisol; otherwise known as the stress hormone, is not only released during fight or flight moments, but is also related to your alertness throughout the day.

Cortisol is released into your body, peaking during 8-9am. Having caffeine during this period actually diminishes its effect.

In the long run, you end up consuming more caffeine as you become more tolerant, and remain feeling less alert.

Check out their short video that perfectly explains how cortisol and caffeine effects the human body.
