Hollywood heavyweights are causing a stir around the red carpet, criticizing paparazzi and journalists asking them shallow questions centred mostly around who they’re wearing.

In an interview for Harper’s Bazaar, Cate Blanchett has verbally scathed reporters who only asked her about her outfit, despite her achievements within film. Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Bell and Amy Poehler have also supported the hashtag #AskHerMore that is trending on Twitter, urging journalists and entertainment presenters to ask females on the red carpet more than just the clothes they are wearing.
This has come as the female empowerment movement is at a high, with Hillary Clinton preparing to run for office in the United States. Females in film are going to such heights with their acting, but all they are being questioned about is who they’re wearing, an old fashioned ritual that needs to be changed. Cate Blanchett has slammed E!’s Glam Cam and the way it scans the female body, while doing nothing of the sort to males.
And she’s right. Women on the red carpet are often asked about their diet and exercise regimes and their dress designer rather than how they performed during a movie they might be receiving an award for. They’re ask about their dress more than their career.
While the red carpet does need questions that delve into more than just the looks, designers shouldn’t be eschewed. They’ve worked hard to produce these dresses and fit them on an amazing actress to promote their brand and still deserve to be mentioned on the red carpet.
It seems that the red carpet walk has become more about the fashion work than the film industry and there should be a healthy balance that focuses more on the work and with the dress as a secondary.
