One of the biggest shocks at Paris Fashion Week that didn’t have anything to do whatsoever with the collections being shown, was the revelation of platinum blonde locks on Kim Kardashian and coincidentally also on Jared Leto.
MORE: Tips For Going From Blonde To Brunette
Both looks were debuted by surprise, with no one having any clue that their dark locks would be turned light. But before you race to your hairdressers or pick up a packet of dye from your pharmacy, there are a few things to think about when you’re switching your hair colour from dark to light.
Kimmy K, who usually keeps her hair darker, seemed effortless in changing colours, oblivious to the memes that were created and rocked the blonde with confidence and style. Blonde is definitely in this season, with warmer weather on the horizons and the promise of sunshine in the sky (in the northern hemisphere anyway).
Before choosing to go blonde, the first step is to speak to a stylist or hair dresser who can help you make the right decision. While we wouldn’t have thought that platinum blonde would be for Kim, her stylist has done her justice in making it work, and yours can do the same.
Using a packet colour to take your hair from dark to light can lead to that awful orange colour, which then leads to more dying and damaging of your tresses, which is definitely not desirable.
At your hairdresser, it’s not as simple as having your hair done in an hour. Dark tresses need to be properly coloured blonde to avoid the brassy look Hair is bleached and treated for damage and ensured that the right colour has been reached with appropriate highlights to complement your look.
When you first become blonde after being a brunette, you need to recognise that there will be more maintenance that you will have to adhere to. Touch ups of roots are necessary to avoid obvious regrowth and hair condition may become weaker, meaning more treatments to keep it strong and healthy. You may have to switch shampoos and conditioners to keep your hair looking blonde and not brass.
When going blonde, you also need to consider the changes you will make to your makeup and wardrobe to suit your new style. Vibrant lips can be used and makeup and eyebrow colour especially will need to be adjusted to not seem so bold against your platinum locks. Adding a warmer blush for colour and a few extra layers of mascara are a great way to fix your face warmth without darkening your foundation.
