Travel-Sized Must-Haves For Your Beauty Bag

When you’re jetting to your overseas destination, there’s nothing more annoying than going through customs and having your favourite beauty products taken from your carry on for being too big. When traveling internationally from Australia, there are restrictions on the liquids and gels that you have in your carry on baggage. Each item must be 100 mL or less and they must fit comfortably in a resealable plastic bag of which the lengths of all sides equals 80 centimetres or less. Pretty strict right?

MORE: How To Look Great After A Long Flight

Don’t wail and clutch your jumbo sized moisturiser just yet. We’ve figured out some of the best travel sized items that you might want to keep on hand in your carry on baggage for optimum beauty and minimum plane face. Obviously, a plastic bag that is twenty centimetres on all sides, such as a snap lock bag is quite small, but if you pack some great products, you’ll be looking your best and packing your least.

One of the most talked about beauty regime to do on a long flight is to moisturise, moisturise and moisturise some more. The circulated air on a plane dries out your skin leaving you with scales where your skin used to be. Avoid dryness with a good hydrating moisturiser like Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion (7). Eye bags and puffiness populate the crowds in the airport, but you don’t have to be one of them. It’s simple to add a little moisturising eye cream during the flight to reduce swelling and bags under the eyes with a Natio Renew Roll On Eye Serum (8). Don’t forget a lip balm to keep your lips soft and hydrated like Maybelline Baby Lips.

While your makeup powders, eye shadows and pencil liners don’t have to be in your clear, plastic baggie, you liquid items like mascara and liquid liner will. Many makeup brands supply travel sized mascaras for the jet setting lady, but we love the Benefit Cosmetics Real Steal Pack (1) which includes a mini They’re Real Mascara, mini They’re Real Eyeliner and a sampler They’re Real makeup remover. Don’t forget some makeup wipes to get rid of dirt and bacteria that is being put into the air by the one hundred people in your direct vicinity. Sephora do some great mini packs of Express Cleansing Wipes (13) that are handbag size for your on flight convenience. A powder foundation is a great alternative to carrying a liquid on board to apply for your arrival, though if tinted moisturiser, BB Cream or foundation is your calling, Laura Mercier has your face covered with travel sized versions of the Foundation Primer (3) and BB cream.

You can get rid of plane hair with a quick spritz of dry shampoo to give your hair some volume and ensure it doesn’t look greasy. Finally, get rid of that bad breath from dribbling on the poor soul next to you by brushing your teeth or alternatively, using a cleaning mouth wash like Listerine Fresh Burst Mouthwash (9). And if you’re certain that you can’t wait until your destination to make yourself smell like Marc Jacobs, you’re in luck with this pen-sized Daisy perfume (5).

All these products are mini and under 100mL to get you past customs with the beauty essentials in your carry on!
