The Best Of New York Fashion Week

While New York Fashion Week took place a week earlier than usual due to the dates, designers and events have shown no sign of time lacking on their runways. There’s been some amazing shows this year with designers going all out for the showings of their Spring 2015 collections and of course, there were a swag of celebrities sitting front row and getting tongues wagging at the after parties.

Tommy Hilfiger’s 1960’s festival themed runway show was a hit with the crowd as they watched models walk between brightly coloured flowers in outfits that epitomise a carefree summer. Diane von Furstenburg showed her runway royalty of Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner and Candice Swanepoel in her famous wrap dresses in a variety of bright colours and playful prints. DKNY showed New York’s true colours with colour popping sets and dresses paired with platform sandals and sneakers while Herve Leger also brought the bright colours, though with a different feel. Max and Lubov Azria have channelled the inner warrior with this collection showing dresses with metallic details, little black dresses and printed bandage tops.

Nanette Lepore’s collection was just as fun as intended with light materials, sailor stripes and printed swimsuits, complete with a conga line finale. Monique Lhuillier’s collection was as sweet as princesses with metallic dresses and tulle skirts in gorgeous pastel colours. Alexander Wang’s collection was very athletic with models sporting tight, bright coloured dresses and crop tops with black, high waisted slacks.

Other notable moments at New York Fashion Week so far were dogs on the runway at Hood by Air, Lady Gaga’s performance at Harper’s Bazaar’s Icon’s September Issue party, Rihanna changing her outfits up to three times per day, Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’ dance lesson and Alexander Wang’s star studded after party with a topless Miley Cyrus covering her nipples with ice cream cone pasties.
