Vogue’s Fashion Night Out 2014

Pink and white confetti filled the air as Vogue editor-in-chief, Edwina McCann officially opened the 2014 Vogue’s Fashion Night Out. The official launch in Hyde Park was addressed by Sydney Lord-Mayor Clover Moore before Edwina McCann took to the stage and then welcomed singer Lanie Lane to wow the crowd with her vocals. VIP fashionistas, style bloggers and everyone not wearing a Vogue t-shirt were then invited to explore what the city’s best retail stores had to offer, including complimentary champagne.

Stylish celebrities walked the black carpet in their Vogue shirts to celebrate this year’s event. Official Vogue Fashion’s Night Out ambassadors Rachael Finch and Kyly Clark styled their Vogue shirts with pencil skirts whilst Mimi Elashiry worked her with a denim jacket and shorts. Isabelle Cornish looked sophisticated with her black blazer, Vogue shirt and skin-tight, cropped leather pants while host of the David Jones swimwear show, Emma Freedman worked her Vogue shirt with a white midi skirt. Celebrities were then seen throughout stores during the night seeing what the city had to offer.

As official partner of the event, which is in its fifth year, David Jones housed a range of glamorous events in both their Elizabeth Street and Market Street stores, including fashion shows, men’s styling with GQ, pop up bars and designer panels for all your fashion queries. Absolutely brimming with shoppers on all levels, the retail giant was the hub of the evening, selling the Vogue t-shirts designed by Bassike that were flying off the racks. Customers were also able to purchase the October issue of Vogue via a pre-sale in Martin Place with male models as salesmen or star in a Vogue cover in the Olympus store.

Social media was a huge part of the night with special hashtags all over the city to recognise Vogue Fashion’s Night Out and the stores that were participating. Edwina McCann encouraged everyone to place their #VFNO experience on social media to make sure ‘we all show the world how Sydney does VFNO’.

The event was started by Vogue as an initiative to support the fashion and retail industry with full priced shopping with stores encouraged to incentivise rather than hold sales. There were free samples, great deals and an abundance of free champagne in stores all over the CBD, nary a shopper without at least two shopping bags in sight. The annual event attracts more shoppers than box day sales and takes place all over the world in the month of September.
