If it’s silver and sparkly, guaranteed you saw it on the Met Gala red carpet.
If you were ever at a shortage of your celebrity style fix, be prepared for an influx of amazing outfits that hit the red carpet at the 2016 Met Gala. This year’s theme was all about futuristic looks with ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology’ and many celebrities embraced the theme with silver panels on gowns and almost foil-like fabrics.
Claire Danes was in the spotlight both on the red carpet and inside the venue with her pale blue Zac Posen gown. The Cinderella-inspired strapless gown was a favourite of the night even before everyone realised it glowed in the dark. Talk about the future of fashion – seeing your outfit in the dark is a great way to be noticed!
There were so many frocks to choose from that we’ve only chosen the best, but even the best is such a huge number. Between Nina Dobrev in an embellished Marchesa gown, Alexa Chung in a sparkled Thakoon jumpsuit and Jourdan Dunn in Balmain, and so many stars in between, it was hard to choose favourites.
Blake Lively, who is always a stand out on the Met Gala red carpet, was gorgeous in a soft, blush Burberry gown, complete with flowered cape and huge, drop diamond earrings. Kate Hudson, who is also a red carpet regular appeared in a fitted and strapless Atelier Versace with peek-a-boo panels.
Kylie and Kendall Jenner were also standouts of the night, with Kendall in mosaic-inspired Versace gown, showing off plenty of waist and Kylie in a sparkling Balmain gown with a sleek, new bob.
Beyonce turned heads in her latex Givenchy with metal confetti embellishments while Rita Ora’s revealing, feathered Vera Wang was a silvery winner.
And while there were gowns galore, there are always a few wacky ladies who need a shout of for their originality on the Met Gala red carpet. Queens of controversy Madonna and Lady Gaga both appeared in skin bearing numbers. While Madonna’s strappy Givenchy leotard covered her modesty areas with lace and tape, Lady Gaga’s look was more rock ‘n’ roll in a Versace leotard and futuristic jacket with huge boots and fishnets.
