As a beauty enthusiast and makeup lover since my early teen years, I’m no stranger to using popular beauty bloggers, vloggers and journalists as sources for education and inspiration. But none more influential to me (and just over a million of her subscribers) than makeup artist and beauty educator, Marlena Stell from YouTube channel MakeupGeekTV.

Her cosmetic company Makeup Geek (makeupgeek.com) has received a plethora of glowing reviews, positive publicity and well received by the beauty community at large for its affordability, wearability and quality that rivals expensive luxury companies. Her latest creations that have hit almost cult status, a collection of foiled eyeshadows, are no exception to the amazing quality we’ve come to know and love from this online brand.
These eyeshadows are described as “foiled” after a technique that requires the combining of eyeshadows with a mixing medium, in order for it to appear more pigmented and lustrous on the eyelid. These beauties cut out the need for this process, as they are highly pigmented and extremely metallic. They essentially provide the glitz of a traditional pigment eyeshadow without any of the mess! I will admit that the creamy texture does mean that these particular eyeshadows crease faster than normal, but nothing a trustworthy eye primer can’t sort out.
The colours are divine, easy to blend and completely breathtaking! With the names following an adorable circus theme, my favourites among the entire collection include; Flamethrower (a stunning warm copper), Grandstand (a unique peach bronze with slight cool taupe undertones) and Showtime (a flattering burgundy rust).
The only shade I found lacking in colour payoff compared to the others in the collection was Caitlin Rose, a gorgeous lilac purple. But I don’t mind in the slightest, as all proceeds for this particular eyeshadow goes to research and support for families suffering from Batten Disease. If you don’t mind working with the shade a bit, this is an eyeshadow you should definitely pick up.
So, the final verdict is that you must get your hands on these if you’re fan of glittery, metallic, good quality eyeshadows at an affordable price and want to support an inspirational artist and mentor.
