Miss Universe Australia, Tegan Martin’s National Costume for the Miss Universe Pageant in Miami has been revealed. Voted by the public and Channel 7’s Sunrise viewers, the outfit designed by Caitlin Holstock has gained permission from the Wurundgeri Tribe in Melbourne to use the print originally painted by Aboriginal elder William Barak in the 1800s.

The outfit includes a beaded headband and a skirt embellished with clay beading and native drawings with an ochre coloured two piece.
Holstock’s design beat three others to be worn by Miss Universe Australia Tegan Martin at the International finals in Miami on January 25th next year. Inspiration for the other three designs included Steve Irwin, The Sydney Opera House and corrugated iron and native wildflowers.
This year’s design comes after a multitude of eyebrow raising outfits over the years including Jesinta Campbell’s high heeled ugg boots, Jennifer Hawkins’ grey, map-gown and Scherri-Lee Biggs Indigenous inspired swimsuit and skirt.
