Benjamin Von Wong’s Underwater Photoshoot

Benjamin Von Wong has taken his photography to a new level – below sea level that is. The Chinese-Canadian, who’s photography is inspired and creative to say the very least, took models to new depths to create a new world in an underwater shipwreck in Bali. The photos captured are hauntingly beautiful, however the shoot wasn’t as easy at the shots make it seem.

Von Wong had to source models who were able to dive and hold their breath for long enough. Models Nora Li and Camilla Argent are experienced free divers, capable of holding their breath for between 3 and 4 minutes. These ladies were tied to the wreck and given oxygen by free divers between shots. Specially trained divers had to become assistants and lighting was scarce, Von Wong using only the strobe from his camera and the natural light from above. The clothes used were unable to only be rented as the seawater would ruin them, so international designer Ali Charisma donated some older designs to be used for this whimsical shoot.

The results of this shoot are beyond amazing and Von Wong has set an international high for underwater shoots – at 25 metres below the surface.
