With 50 years experience in the fashion circuit, the designer knows what he audience wants and she’ll be darned if she doesn’t get it.
This year’s collection is no different, with inspiration drawn from life and dance over the past five decades for the Betsey Johnson Spring 2016 ready to wear collection that showed at New York Fashion Week. Opening the show with popping bubblegum mini dresses that wouldn’t be out of place in a Katy Perry costume collection, Betsey’s fun and eccentric way of style is just electric. With plenty of glitz, sparkle and punchy colour, we’re placing bets on which red carpet we’re going to see these designs on first.
Betsey moved down the decades paying homage to the special features of each like the grunge attitude of the 90’s and the baton twirling women of the 50’s with leotards, short skirts and plenty of sequins. Each outfit was expertly designed to show intricate detailing of pattern and print, whether it be stripes or teapots, Betsey Johnson is a stickler from complex detail.
The iconic fashion designer, who is 73, celebrated her 50 years in fashion and the showing of her collection place on 9/11 by wearing an American flag singlet that she had saved from 2001. Wearing it for the fireman, she said, she also had models prance the stage with American flags plastered onto their outfits showing that she had not forgotten what was most important on that day.
Betsey celebrated her 50 years in fashion by showing up the rest of the younger generation with a cartwheel and a split on the runway. Dresses in black and white striped leggings, the boisterous blonde was very excited about her new colour popping collection.
