Why You Shouldn’t Wear Makeup To The Gym

I have to confess that I’ve been one of those people that has worn makeup to the gym from time to time. Not a full face of foundation or a full on glam look, but a bit of concealer here or there (to cover up those late nights) and maybe some mascara. But, have you ever seen those girls on the treadmill that look like they’re ready to hit up the clubs like its Saturday night? I mean a full face of makeup topped off with highlight and some contour.

Some girls are self-conscious to leave the house without something on their face – I get that. But, did you know that wearing makeup to the gym can be even harmful for your skin?

  1. When we work out we get hot and sweaty and our pores open. This means that that thick layer of makeup on your face has a better chance of clogging your pores. Break out alert!
  2. Mixing heat, sweat, and makeup, not to mention all the bacteria that’s in the air at the gym, plays a huge toll on blocking your pores. If you’re not a fan of breakouts then you’ll definitely hate the blackheads that this will cause.
  3. Stay clear of SPF. If you’re working out indoors then this shouldn’t be a problem. SPF can actually be really bad for your skin when you work out. It absorbs more easily into the skin when you sweat – again, a huge cause of breakouts.

Why You Shouldn’t Wear Makeup To The Gym

So, if you feel like you need to put a little bit of makeup on your face to work out here’s what you need to do:

  • Stay clear of SPF
  • Stay clear of oil-based products
  • Wear a mineral powder instead of liquid foundation (it lets skin breathe)
  • Wear water proof mascara
  • Use a bit of concealer only to cover blemishes and dark circles
