Taylor Swift As You’ve Never Seen Her Before

In a week that saw Kim Kardashian ‘break the internet’ with the reveal of her daring Paper magazine shoot, another magazine was quietly going about their own business, poised to unveil perhaps the most unrecognisable cover of the year. Amid bare bums, champagne showers and (just when we thought we’d seen it all) full frontal Kardashian nudity, a bronzed and freckled, completely stripped back version of Taylor Swift on the cover of Wonderland magazine left us (yet again) in awe of the pop princess.

The images are in stark contrast to a shoot Swift did for the same magazine’s ‘Outspoken’ issue only just last year, in which a playful and wide eyed Swift charmed the camera with a youthful exuberance. Dancing with a blow up giraffe, all bouncy, blonde hair and bright, quirky outfits, it’s classic Swift, and exactly what we have come to expect from her.

Fast forward and it’s a completely different Swift that stares back off the cover of the latest Wonderland issue. The trademark red lips are gone, replaced by an AMAZING set of brows, and her blonde locks are slicked back and tousled. It’s a strong, androgynous look, and a far cry from the ultra girly, hyper perky image she usually projects.

But this is a Tay Tay that clearly means business. The styling is sharp and tailored, thanks to the likes of Prada, Chanel and Marc Jacobs, with not a sequin nor flash of midriff in sight. Having just released her fifth studio album, 1989, the grown up, more experimental sound she has produced complements the brave new identity she unleashes in the shoot.

The minimal aesthetic clearly suits Swift, and it’s a refreshing change up from the 24/7 glamour that she normally exudes. Whether or not this is a style reinvention, or another way to challenge the general perception people have of her, Swift knows exactly what she is doing, and all those haters can just hate, hate, hate.
