Steal Her Style: Emily Ratajkowski

It goes without saying that even over a year after the controversial Blurred Lines video clip was released, the name Emily Ratajkowski is still soundly connected with it. Who could forget that face (and body) though, as Ratajkowski managed to literally steal the spotlight away from the likes of Pharrell, T.I. and Robin Thicke. What nobody was expecting however, was just how determined Ratajkowski actually was to stay put there.

Instead of fading into model obscurity, forever remembered as ‘that girl’ from ‘that video clip’ Ratajkowski has forged her own path, taking her modelling to stratospheric heights (Sports Illustrated ain’t a bad gig) and even landing a role in the most talked about movie adaptation of the year – Gone Girl. So there is brains behind the beauty, and (almost unfairly) Ratajkowski has undeniably great style, as her recent red carpet and off-duty looks prove. There is definitely no blurring the lines with this girl.

Thanks to her role as the young, naive mistress opposite Ben Affleck in Gone Girl (only this year’s most talked about Hollywood film – and her FIRST feature movie role) Ratajkowski has had the opportunity to really work the cameras on the promotion trail. And to our surprise, it hasn’t been all knockout, bombshell looks from the girl who could fall back on being fashionably one dimensional if she wanted. Ratajkowski is all about the clean silhouette, crops and cut outs, making sure each outfit she pulls together makes some kind of style statement. With such a petite frame, Ratajkowski ensures she is never overpowered by an outfit by ensuring she sticks to form-fitting, sleek gowns, as too much volume would completely consume her.

Her Golden Globes after party look was classic Ratajkowski, a to-die-for silver beaded Roberto Cavalli gown, that looked like it was poured over her (the clean silhouette) and completely backless (the statement). If Ratajkowski could give red carpet 101 styling tips it would pretty much be: 1. Look exactly like this, at all black tie events. Simple as that really.

It’s off-duty, or at more casual affairs that Ratajkowski has proved she knows how to have fun with her fashion as well. Double denim (which Ratajkowski somehow makes sexy), cute co-ords and again, more crops, suit her playful nature, and set her apart from the standard off-duty model uniform of skinny jeans, boots and a leather jacket. Ratajkowski also knows a thing or two about rocking a print and mixing textures, which she does super gracefully, and usually in the form of matching two-piece sets which help elongate (even more!) her body.

If anything is signature about Ratajkowski and her everyday looks, it’s her tousled hair, which always manages to be the in the perfect state of ‘undone’ or ‘messy’, without actually looking like a hair is out of place. Blessed with a body we would all kill for, Ratajkowski could pull off anything, but it’s these interesting style choices, like the overalls below, which make her so appealing and exciting to watch.

Emily Ratajkowski is like the girl next door; your brother probably wants to date her, you definitely want to be her new best friend. And with such a cool, effortless style (and probably the best wardrobe ever), it’s time to get in line – this girl is in high demand.
