Simply Red: 2014 Emmy Awards Red Carpet

67th Annual Emmy Awards

While yesterday’s MTV Video Music Awards brought out the sexy, revealing and short, the 2014 Emmy Awards red carpet is a little more glitz and glamorous. Celebrities arrived at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre in their best attire with the most handsome arm candy. There have been some amazing and tragic outfits at this year’s Emmy Awards.

Let’s start with the good:

Heidi Klum looked amazing as usual in a coral Zac Posen gown. With the clean lines of the dress, her incredible tan and blonde waves, the model couldn’t put a foot wrong. ‘Orange Is The New Black’ star Laverne Cox looked heavenly in a white gown with a plunging neckline and jewelled details. Her co-star Taylor Schilling also got it right in an embellished, cream gown. Hayden Panattiere showed off her baby bump in a sparkly gown and stylish up do, while Natalie Dormer kept it simple in an orange and black gown that showed off her slim waist. Allison Williams sleek bun and strapless gown accentuated her waist well and Amy Poehler glittered in her mirrored gown.

Kate Mara’s unusual, asymmetrical cut out gown caught out attention and though we would love to hate Keke Palmer’s royal blue mermaid gown, the shape looked amazing on her figure. Camilla Alves had the best accessory of all – husband Matthew McConaughey, though even if she didn’t, she would still be our best dressed with her slick back hair and white and nude gown. Sophia Vergara was a close second with her white, strapless gown, showing off her voluptuous body. Fellow modern family star Sarah Hyland continued her red carpet streak with her white crop top and full coral skirt. Reminiscent of the ’10 Things I Hate About You’ prom outfit, the chic bun and earrings completed the winning outfit. Lizzy Caplan’s black and white cut out dress was simple and gorgeous while Kristen Wiig’s white, slip-gown was equally stunning.

An atrocious stand out on the red carpet, for all the wrong reasons was Lena Dunham and her red, pink and white colour block tulle skirt and collared shirt. While the trends for the Emmys seemed to be red, pink and white dresses, many of the red dresses were a disappointment and fairly unflattering including those of January Jones, Christina Hendricks, Mindy Kaling and Uzo Aduba.
