How To Style Plaid

One of the most retro trends that we have seen come back into style has got to be plaid. Flannelette shirts, tartan skirts and plaid accessories have been hitting stores and wardrobes across the world. Celebrities have come on board the trend too, with Chloe Moretz rocking a cut-out plaid blouse for Jimmy Kimmel last week.

So how do you go about wearing this trend? Well it depends if you were going for Clueless, casual or chic. For a cute outfit, you could indeed take the ‘Clueless’ route and pair matchy-matchy shorts or a skirt and a jacket. Or if that’s a little too plaid for you, why not pair a cream skirt and jacket with a plaid top? A plaid top is great to throw on over jeans or shorts and a cute crop or singlet, or for a more vintage style, find a midi plaid skirt and work in colour co-ordination.

You can play up textures and patterns with knitted jumpers over plaid shirts and lace tops or stockings with plaid skirts, or add a bit of leather for some attitude. You can also try plaid pants or a plaid dress, it just depends how much you want to wear.

If you’re a little wary, you can also add plaid accessories like a scarf, beret or clutch in plaid to offset your outfit.
