Paris Fashion Week Wrap Up

It has been an exciting week for Paris Fashion Week. Rounding up the weeks of trend and style in major fashion capitals around the world, Paris closed the season with Hermes on October 1st. While Paris is known to be the city of love and romance, floaty, fairytale designs were notably absent on the runway, replaced by heavier and thicker fabrics, rough cuts and darker colours.

Givenchy, Balmain, Commes des Garcons and Loewe all supported this new trend, possibly with the forecast of a chillier summer. David Koma debuted his collection for Mugler and we can’t get enough of it! The sleek collection of block monochromes, ice blue, tangerine and cream are a match made in heaven with the uniquely designed cuts of the clothing. Saint Laurent channeled the 70s vibe as seen in other cities with suede fabrics and leather accents.

Chanel’s show was a standout as always with models parading the modelled street protest style in the name of feminism. Wearing a tweed suit, Cara Delevingne brandished a megaphone, chanting “What Do We Want”, leading a group of stunningly dressed models holding up signs for women’s rights and Karl, himself. As the finale of the show, the protest allowed all pieces in the collection to be shown, that is, a juxtaposition of tweed and brights. Models in bright makeup donned tweed suits with colour blasted shirts, colourful capes and matching boots.

Sandals, particularly gladiator sandals seemed to run the shows with Givenchy, Isabel Marant, Alexander McQueen and Valentino all featuring the style. Whites were also on trend alert, being seen in Stella McCartney, Dior, Balmain, Chloe and more.

With the heavyweighters scheduled to close the week, the last day consisted of Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and Hermes. Louis Vuitton jumped on the 70’s bandwagon with a selection of fabulous hand bags that Miranda Kerr manager to get her hands on before the show even took place. Nicholas Ghesquiere’s collection was bright and fun and included skirts made form strips of leather, one side vertical and the other horizontal. Crop tops were in at Miu Miu while Hermes showcased minimalism with colours such as camel, tan and maroon.

There was an array of fabulous models to feast your eyes on including Karlie Kloss, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, Jourdan Dunn, Chanel favourite Kara Delevingne and prominent new arrival Kendall Jenner. Many celebrities also hit the French capital for select shows during the week including Selena Gomez, aforementioned Miranda Kerr, Justin Bieber, Ciara, the Hilton sisters and members of the Kardashian Klan.

On top of all this Kim Kardashian-West was knocked over by serial offender Vitalii Sediuk and then outdone in cleavage by husband Kanye West. Drama.
