How To Wear: 1970s Trends

70s summer trend

The 70’s are back! And while some of you are probably cringing at the thought of overly flared jeans, bold colour and floral combinations, let’s just address the fact that there were definitely some fashions gems that we can take away from that era. Some 70’s trends have been revived for this season and inspired many designers collections.

Off the shoulder dresses, flowing sleeves, and sublet patterns are making a comeback in stores and on runways. This trend is definitely something you’ll want to dabble in this summer. If you’re feeling afraid, here are some tips to help get you started!

The easiest way to start is with a simple off the shoulder dress. This gives a classic 70’s vibe with a bohemian edge. You can go for long or short and flowy sleeves, or even a maxi with a bold pattern. If you’re feeling extra daring, add a thick belt to define your waist and a floppy hat and you’re good to go.

70's fashion trend

Flared jeans have been back for a few seasons, but now they seem to be making more and more appearances in stores. If you’re willing to peel off you’re skinny jeans, then you should give them a go. You don’t have to stick to the traditional type of flared pant (tight at the thigh, flared at the ankle) but choose a subtle one instead. A loose pant with a wide leg or something straight cut will do the trick and look chic with a tight shirt tucked in. Jumpsuits are always a good way to pull the flared pant off because they look less harsh and more put together on the body. The benefit of wearing flared pants is that they make everyone’s legs look extra-long and sexy.

If you’re reluctant or scared to jump on the 70’s bandwagon, then some simple accessories are the perfect way to add some of the trend into your wardrobe. A tasseled bag or jacket can give you some 70’s flare, or throw on some bold sunglasses or jewelry and high wedges for the ultimate kick.
