The I-just-came-back-from-the-beach look is totally on point at the moment. Messy, beachy waves are very on trend and seem to be the go-to hairstyle for all seasons.

The best thing about this look is it works great for both long and short air – and it lasts a few days! If you want to rock the beach wave here’s how to do it.

What you’ll need:

  • Hairspray
  • Dry shampoo
  • Sea salt spray
  • A curler
  • Teasing comb

Instructions:

  1. Start off with straight hair. If your hair is naturally wavy you can leave it.
  2. Prep your hair with dry shampoo. Spray some into the roots of your hair and massage it into your scalp with your fingers. This adds texture and volume to your hair.
  3. Next, spray the sea salt spray into the ends of your hair and rub it in. Like the dry shampoo, this adds texture to your hair but also gives the waves something to grip on to.
  4. Once your hair is prepped it’s time to curl. If you have shoulder length hair or shorter, it’s better to use a curler that has a smaller barrel so your waves aren’t too big. If you hair is shoulder length to longer, use a bigger barrel. Section your hair off starting with the bottom layers of your hair. Take inch-sized strands of hair and start curling (hair curling tutorial here). The trick to getting messy looking waves is alternating by curling towards your face and away from your face with different hair strands. Also, don’t hold your hair on the curler for too long so you get looser curls.
  5. Continue doing this until all your hair is curled. Once you’re done, spray hairspray to hold everything together.
  6. Brush the curls out with your fingertips. If it’s looking a little flat, you can tease the roots to give it some volume. Hairspray again for extra hold and you’re done! That’s it, it’s that simple.
