Met Ball, New York, red carpet, celebrity fashion

The ‘Charles James: Beyond Fashion’ Costume Institute Gala is underway in New York and the red carpet is glowing with a huge variety of gowns. This year’s theme of White Tie and Decorations is dedicated the Charles James, often described as the first American couturier. Anna Wintour, chairperson of the event since 1995 and editor at Vogue, hoped that this year’s theme would have guests dressed in more sophisticated attire than last year’s Punk: Chaos to Couture theme.

Many guests have surprised us with their interpretations of the theme, however the glamour is not lost and we have picked out some of our favourite looks from the 2014 Met Ball so far.

Rita Ora and Lupita Nyong’o continued to stay on top of the best dressed list with gowns from Donna Karen Atelier and Prada, respectively. Gisele Bundchen wowed in a plunging lace dress and Kendall Jenner’s mermaid gown suited her svelte frame perfectly. Lea Michele and Lily Aldridge shone in metallic gowns while Rihanna and Anne Hathaway opted for two piece outfits showing a little skin.  Power couples littered the red carpet while host Sarah Jessica Parker showed off her amazing and signed Oscar de la Renta gown.
