The Melbourne Cup. It’s the biggest day of the Spring Racing Carnival, and a chance for racegoers to match the electric atmosphere with bright and playful outfits. Colour, colour and more colour is what we expected, and that’s certainly what we got, as Flemington burst with every shade of the rainbow.

Our best dressed ladies embraced the chance to inject some energy into the marquees, blooming in pastel blues and hot pinks, and experimenting with lace, ruffles and florals. Whilst everyone’s eyes were on The Race That Stops A Nation, here at Style Etcetera, our eyes (as always) were on the fashion.
International model Gigi Hadid (pictured above) was pretty in pink in an Alex Perry dress that was perfectly suited to the young starlet. Fun and youthful, the high neck, lace creation was a style winner for the first time guest. Hadid flawlessly teamed it with a cluster of sparkling stars masquerading as a Hatmaker headpiece, and proceeded to dazzle us with her fresh exuberance.
Ashley Hart charmed in her pale blue Matthew Salem dress, complementing Kerrie Stanley headpiece, and a smile you just couldn’t wipe off. The long sleeves, pearl necklace and cinched in peplum waist combined to create a dreamy vision of sophistication. White embellishments also helped to tie the entire outfit together and create the ultimate elegant look.
Lady in red, Rachael Finch, knows less is more in this powerhouse outfit. The simple silhouette of the Yeojin Bae dress allows the delicate features of the netted headpiece, and matching netted shoes do the talking. Red is always a bold move, but by keeping the rest of the look natural and effortless, Finch is a knockout.
Unmissable in cornflower blue and a floral crown that rivalled the famous roses of Flemington; model Nikki Phillips was spring personified in her Cup Day outfit. Also in Yeojin Bae, the one sleeved, clean cut of the dress (an unmistakable Yeojin Bae trait) was the perfect accessory to the hero piece of the look: the Nerida Winter crown. The explosion of colour that the floral crown provided ensured Phillips was ahead of the style pack.

Ignoring block colours and bold headpieces that had been favoured by so many thus far in the Spring Racing Carnival, Nicole Warne (aka blogger Gary Pepper Girl) provided graceful allure in head to toe Dolce and Gabbana. The intricacy of the floral pattern on the skirt, along with the texture in the lace top were detail enough, that a delicate chain headband was all that was required to complete her race day ensemble.
