Best Hair and Beauty Trends From NYFW

You’d be hard pressed to find beauty trends that set standards for other fashion weeks in a place other than New York. As the first fashion week of the season, New York raises the bar high for the hair and beauty trends that are to follow.

While natural, fresh faces had been dominating New York Fashion Week for the past couple of seasons, this year, the bare faced beauty still exists, but has been outdone by sleek hair, fun buns, bold lips and a certain Scandinavian beauty that we absolutely love.

Bold my lips

The natural lip is on its way out, with designers opting for a power lip in bold colours. Deep reds, burgundy and purple have been seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Carolina Herrera, Nanette Lepore and so many more (seriously, so many!). The only colours you’ll be needing on your lips this season are the dark berry kind.

Sleek and smooth

Sleek hair whether it be pulled into a pony tail style or worn out was all over the runway this season. Complementing the crisp autumn and winter weather, sleek hair is a must have, with a gorgeous coat of course, to emanate a chic, polished style. Carolina Herrera had perfectly sleek pony tails with a metallic band, while Donna Karen had models walk with sleek, perfectly cut manes.

Tonnes of buns

Messy buns, sleek buns, gathered buns – there’s buns everywhere for you to have a go at, no matter what your style. Victoria Beckham used a loose bun in her show, while Marc Jacobs redefined the top knot. Dennis Basso employed sleek buns for his show and Vera Wang embraced the bed head with gathered knots. There’s no rules on the bun this year, so take your own style and bun it up.

It’s all about eyeliner

Whether it’s on the lid, or under the eye, this season is all about the eyeliner. From a fabulous winged cat eye, like those at Oscar de la Renta, to blingy under eye styles, as seen on the Rodarte runway, eyeliner is set to trend in a big way. Double flicks in soft brown at Anna Sui and below the lash line lines at Adeam were striking, while Cushnie Et Ochs opted for a dramatic smokey eye. Time to get creative with that eyeliner ladies!

Take a trip to Scandinavia

The Scandinavian style of makeup was present at New York Fashion Week, with warm orange tones and a soft, luminous face used on models. Thakoon used this trend the most, with models sporting apricot coloured eyeshadow and shimmered cheek bones. Prabal Gurung also got in on this trend with soft eyeshadow and rosy cheeks, while Herve Leger used the eyeshadow with messy brows.
