Australia’s Commonwealth Games Uniforms

Again, Australian athletes will represent the country that is obviously lacking in fashion sense. The 2014 Commonwealth Games uniforms have been released and unfortunately for the athletes (and our eyes), they are are not the best designs. We acknowledge that Australia doesn’t have the best colours to work with to produce a runway-worthy outfit, however, the oversized lapels with lemon trim do not make us want to scream national pride. Even worse, for the ladies, we have a school like skirt, complete with front pleat and a thick lemon stripe at the hem.

The other part of the uniform to represent Australia are chunky two-toned knits in shades of green and yellow and chunky scarves in grey and yellow. Unfortunately, these chunky, granny knits (and not in a good way) also have the Australian emblem emblazoned on them as if by iron-on patch.

The grey pants and shoes are some relief from the lemon yellow and dark green of the uniform that these athletes are being subjected to and it’s lucky that their Diadora competition gear is a bit more attractive than their casual uniform.
