The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival has wrapped but not before showcasing some amazing designs. Let’s bask in it’s glow for a little longer before the “real” craziness of MBFW Australia begins in Sydney. Firstly, David Jones kicked off the festival on March 17th, opening the show with Jessica Gomes in Scanlan Theodore. Trends from the David Jones show included faux fur, greys, coats and plenty of fitted dresses in prints and block colours.

Camilla Franks put on a hugely impressive runway show with her collection inspired by the female warrior with toughness and attitude. Bold prints on Frank’s signature kaftans were well received from the audience. Looks from Emma Mulholland, Josh Goot, Alpha60, Bianca Spender and Keepsake were also well received among other very distinguished designers. Mimco also showcased their bold accessories for the season.
The winner of the Tiffany & Co. Designer Award was Strateas.Carlucci; a Victorian based label, famous for their leather. Peter Strateas and Mario-Luca Carlucci have been labelled a brand to watch in their endeavors to come.
The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival is just another example of Australia’s emerging and established talents. Designers will now take their shows to Sydney for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia for another showcase of their beautiful collections.
