Only Karl Lagerfeld would be able to make a supermarket super chic with Chanel branded groceries and baskets made out of Chanel chains. Reinventing the Grand Palais, the Chanel Fall Winter 2014/15 runway show at Paris Fashion Week was a reflection everyday luxury and about having a body-conscious silhouette whilst still being comfortable.
Indeed, models walked the aisles in the famous Chanel sneakers that have made a chore look glamorous. Karl Lagerfeld commented on the sneakers saying, “They had to continue… If you want to look really ridiculous, you go in stilettos in the supermarket.” It seems that Lagerfeld is designing his collection around the modern, busy woman, incorporating comfort and style into the classic brand.
Models walked the runway in waist cinching ensembles and big coats as well roomy skirts and striking pants that showed off slim legs. Prominent themes were metallic with models sporting metallic dresses, coats and pants with many items having an ‘oil effect’. Clashing textures was also apparent with fur and features being mixed with wet-look pieces and tweeds.
Cara Delevinge opened the show in a pink crop top and pant ensemble with a full length coat and Kendall Jenner also made her debut. Models wore multicoloured eye shadows with their hair pulled back. Obviously opting for a glamour meets comfort collection, Lagerfeld and Chanel have created pieces that suit the modern woman’s needs.
During the show, models browsed aisles and acquired shopping trolleys to fill with Chanel branded items and after Lagerfeld had walked his runway to a close with his muse, the audience was encouraged to help themselves to the Chanel branded products on the shelves.
The highlight of the show? Apart from the all over magnificence of the Chanel supermarket, the genetically blessed photographs of BFFs Rihanna, Cara Delevinge and Joan Smalls having fun with a trolley after the show.
